"Chewy Marble has been earning comparisons to the Beatles since former Wondermints frontman Brian Kassan formed the band in the mid-'90s, and the power-pop group has been churning out glittering pop confections ever since. The power pop band Chewy Marble was founded by keyboardist Brian Kassan, formerly of the Wondermints, in Los Angeles in 1995. Vocalist/guitarist Stu Forman (a long-time friend of Kassan's,) bassist Derrick Anderson (known for his McCartneyesque bass style) and drummer Tamera Glover completed the lineup and Chewy Marble made their stage debut at the Poptopia Festival in 1996. One year later the Permanent Press label released the band's first full-length effort, an eponymous album that glittered with power-pop and displayed traces of influence from groups like Badfinger (on the album's ""Loneliest Man"") and the Zombies (heard in ""Peculiar"".)Three years after their self-titled debut album delivered a promising dose of power-pop music, Chewy Marble released their sophomore effort, Bowl of Surreal, in 2000. The album featured catchy pop tunes reminiscent of Kassan and his bandmates' biggest inspiration, the Beatles, as well as songs that pay tribute to artists like Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach. The group's most recent effort is 2008's Modulations, an album which was a long time in the making. The current Chewy Marble lineup features Kassan, Forman and Anderson but Glover is absent (she is currently the touring drummer/percussionist with Sparks,) and Eddie Cleland is now the group's drummer. For Modulations, Kassan enlisted drummer/guitarist/vocalist Nelson Bragg of Brian Wilson's touring band as well as Steve Refling on co-production, engineering and mixing. The album spawned comparisons of Chewy Marble to the Flaming Lips, Elliot Smith and, once again, the Beatles and was released via SideBMusic, with whom the band signed with a few months prior to the album's release."
