"Crazy Town is the rap-metal band that set out to create a sound that would be expressive of their home neighborhood of South Central, L.A. The sound is a unique mixture of hip-hop impudence and rock music instrumentation. The group is headed up by two musical powerhouses, vocalists/lyricists/producers Shifty Shellshock and Epic Mazur. The duo were already a part of the backdrop of the rap scene in L.A. long before they made their debut with Crazy Town.Even though the band's first two singles did not do very well, they persisted with one more song, ""Butterfly"" which won through and found itself debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song, with its strange surreal resonance, was an unstoppable hit that set the group out on their way to the top. The tattooed, heavy-chained, pierced, rap-metal band was on the road to sucess. The group started out with the name Brimstone Sluggars and recorded a fair amount of music together but never created a full album. When the duo ended up in rehabilitation, due to a serious and debilitating drug habit, they came up with the idea of Crazy Town, and started their plan of attack. They came out of rehab with a renewed musical vision and an intense commitment to staying clean. It was then that they were joined by the other members of the band that is now known as Crazy Town. Faydoe Deelay joined on to play bass, Anthony Valli and Rust Epique were taken on to play guitar, and JBJ took his place as drummer, the band was rounded out with DJ A.M. The group released their first album in 1999, The Gift of The Game. It was then that the single ""Butterfly"" took off, and the band found itself at the center of unexpected stardom."
