      DJ Shadow

DJ Shadow is from middle class suburbia, but has found success with his unique hip-hop style unlike any other hardcore rapper or artist in his genre - combining instruments like the cello, chimes and wind instruments with a techno rhythm and style. His debut album, Entroducing...showcased this NorCal native's innovative hip-hop style and sound. The album was named by Spin magazine as one of 20 Best Albums of 1996 and lead to a positive future in the music industry. Since then, DJ Shadow has collaborated with English DJ James Lavelle, known as U.N.K.L.E. and mixed for DJ Krush, Lateef the Truth Seeker, Blackalicious and the Roots. Even before his name was recognizable, the artist founded his own label with Jeff Zen Chang, providing an outlet for other artists with similar outlooks on the hip-hop world. His debut live performance occurred in 1993, and since then DJ Shadow has thrived off the element of surprise that lies in performing to a live audience.Currently on PlayPhone's website are two singles from this artists long line of work, including the polyphonic version of his This Time, from his The Outsider album, as well as the music toneInterlude (Live at 45).
