"Daniel Powter was born in British Columbia, Canada in 1971. Music was a big part of young Daniel's early years thanks to his musician mother's influence. His mother would often take Powter to concerts of all sorts, planting the seed of music in his young mind at an early age. Powter first learned to play the violin, discovering the piano soon after.Seriously injured when he was hit by a car as a youth, Powter began wearing beanie hats to hide his scarring from the accident, a look that has become somewhat of a trademark over the years. After singing and playing in his high school band, Powter moved on to college, where he spent two years before moving to Vancouver to pursue his music. In Vancouver a music scene awaited that would provide both assistance and obstacles for the young man. Powter spent the better part of a decade battling a cocaine addiction that he developed while traversing Vancouver's musical landscape. After cleaning himself up, Powter came to meet producer Jeff Dawson, who would work extensively with the singer/songwriter on his eponymous debut album. The single ""Bad Day"" was released in Europe in 2005, preceding the release of his full-length record. ""Bad Day"" was a major hit and shot Powter into the limelight. As the single was released in The U.S., Australia and Canada it became apparent that Powter had serious global appeal.Daniel Powter was released in 2006 and experienced solid success, mostly due to the strong introduction to the industry brought about by ""Bad Day."" A combination of traditional production features and modern day polish, the album hit home with a variety of listeners with its array of stylistic influences. His follow-up effort, Under the Radar, was released in 2008 but the title turned out to be a little too fitting."
