"What do you get when you fuse gospel and jazz? Gospel great Daryl Coley, of course. Pastor Coley got his start with the Hawkins Family but soon launched a solo career that earned him Grammy and Stellar awards and nominations as well as worldwide recognition.Coley was born in San Francisco, where he first exercised his jazz genius by playing the clarinet and piano after inheriting his mother's love of gospel music. In 1977 Coley joined the Hawkins Family on the keyboards before leaving to collaborate with Reverend James Cleveland in 1983. Coley release his first solo effort in 1986 on First Epistle Records and the aptly titled Just Daryl was an instant success, indicating Coley's promising future. The album was nominated for a Grammy, and in 2000 Coley's debut for Light Records, He's Right on Time, topped the Gospel Charts, as did 1992's When the Music Stops. Coley has worked with the likes of jazz mainstays Nancy Wilson and Rodney Franklin as well as pop singer Philip Bailey, and despite his staggering success in the gospel music world, Coley continues to focus primarily on the message of his music. Coley has used his talents to help the American Diabetes Association, among other admirable causes where he helps bring awareness about the disease through his lasting contribution to the gospel community and his own radio PSAs (Public Service Announcements). Most recently, Coley released a reissue of the album that first made him famous, Just Daryl, which includes remastered classics like ""II Chronicles"" and ""Nobody Like the Lord,"" as well as some new tracks. Pastor Coley continues to remain among the ranks of the most respected and cherished in the gospel music and jazz world after nearly three decades in the music business."
