Don't let the fact that he was an American Idol finalist dissuade you from listening to Daughtry. This modern rocker has outshined his fellow AI alums and secured a loyal fan base for his brand of true rock'n'roll, separate from his prime time fame.Daughtry was born in North Carolina but relocated to Greensboro where he began singing as a teenager. Fast-forward to 1998 and the aspiring singer was married to girlfriend Deanna (he adopted her daughter from a previous marriage,) had son Griffin and was playing guitar and singing for Absent Element. After being rejected from Rock Star-INXS in 2005, Daughtry was ushered into the AI phenomenon on the heels of rockers Bo Bice and Constantine and fans adored him for his family man affability and good looks (characterized by his TV-ready smile and bald head.) America eventually voted Daughtry off the show (Katherine McPhee narrowly escaped dismissal,) but he made it to the final four and was even offered a spot in Fuel after the band heard his rendition of Hemorrhage (In My Hands). Daughtry declined the offer and signed with Idol's 19 Entertainment group and RCA in 2006.Guitarist Jeremy Brady (who was later replaced by Brian Craddock,) guitarist Josh Steely, bassist Josh Paul and drummer Joey Barnes joined Daughtry to form DAUGHTRY, and their debut soared to the Top Ten in 2007 thanks to single It's Not Over. Not only was the album the most successful to come from an AI alum that year (sorry Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks) but it was one of the only true rock albums to be released that year, as well. As part of DAUGHTRY, Chris Daughtry proved his credibility apart from the show that made him famous and also proved that he can rock with the best of them.
