Sean Combs, now known to the world as Diddy, was born in Harlem on November 4, 1969 but grew up in Mt. Vernon New York. His father, Melvin, was shot and killed in Manhattan's Central Park when he was three years old. As a teenager Combs began to immerse himself in the rising hip-hop and rap culture of ‘80s Harlem. He also played on the high school football team, which is where he got his original professional handle, Puff Diddy. Moving on from high school, Coombs attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. During that time he obtained an internship with Uptown Entertainment. The internship turned out to be the second major turning point of his life, giving him a taste of the entertainment world and inspiring him towards a lifelong success in the music world. By the age of 19 Combs was already the Director of A&R at Uptown. Shortly after being fired from Uptown, in the mid ‘90s, Combs started up his own company Bad Boy Entertainment which is now known as one of the driving forces of the entertainment industry. The company originally operated with Artista Records, but the partnership was agreeably dissolved in 2004. Combs continued forward, moving his company along, working to make it not only successful, but also influential. In 1998 Combs started producing his own line of clothing based on what fans could see him and the other members of his casts wearing in his music videos, and expanded this section of his company to include women's clothes in 2003.Combs has also provided a positive influence through his humanitarian work, giving back to the community by creating educational programs for underprivileged youth in the inner cities.
