"Latin reggaeton singer William Omar Landron, better known as Don Omar, was born February 10, 1980 in Puerto Rico. He was involved in the church as a youngster before becoming a preacher, challenging his perception of God. He left the church to pursue music and got swept in with the reggaeton movement that was overpowering his country. Hector Delgado, from the duo Hector and Tito, brought Omar on as a backup singer, and Omar performed with them in a live concert and their 2003 record.Omar left the group to pursue a solo career, creating the debut album The Last Don, which was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, selling over 550,000 copies in South America. Genre hit-makers Luny Tunes and Eliel produced most of his work, creating hit singles like ""Intocable"" and ""Dile."" His next album The Last Don Live sold over a million copies, leading to a Latin Pop Album of the Year and New Artist & Latin Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year awards at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2003.At the same time Omar was collaborating with producer Luny Tunes, appearing on a few of his mixtapes, including the breakthrough hit ""Reggaeton Latino,"" from the compilation Chosen Few. The single spread like wildfire across the globe and almost immediately a US remix (featuring both English and Spanish) was issued with Latino rappers N.O.R.E. and Fat Joe. The single became a crossover hit, becoming the second reggaeton music video to ever premiere on MTV.He is one of the few reggaeton artists to keep up a worldwide tour, stopping in Europe, US, and Central and South America. In 2004 he was detained by police officers for drug and weapon possession, the charges eventually being dropped in July 2008. He created his own record label and has three children."
