Donell Jones Biography
Donell Jones knows how tough life can be and has come out on the other side with perseverance, insight and incredible musical talent. Not only does he have an incredible voice, he is also a talented songwriter who many top artists look to for influence.Donell Jones was born in Chicago in the early 1970s as the son of a gospel singer. His gospel family meant an early exposure to music, which Jones seemed to soak up immediately. He also felt a pull from another source, the gangs of the south side of Chicago. After a few experiences with a gang, he turned his attention to music and met former Heavy D & the Boyz member Edward "Eddie F" Ferrell, who was now the president of Untouchables Entertainment. The music sensation Usher soon had a hit in 1994 with a song Jones wrote called "Think of You." The song gave him the credibility to release a solo album in 1996 called My Heart. The album singles "Knocks Me Off My Feet," "You Should Know" and "In The Hood" were instant hits with fans. Between albums, he wrote songs for other artists including "Get It Together" for 702 and "Not Gonna Letcha" for Drea. He released Where I Wanna Be next in 1999 and came up with the top song "U Know What’s Up" with the late Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes. Other singles included the title track, "Shorty (Got Her Eyes On Me)" and "This Luv." In 2000, he also contributed to the Shaft soundtrack with "Do What I Gotta Do."His next album found more success in 2002 with Life Goes On and the singles "You Know That I Love You" and "Put Me Down." He took a few years to follow up the album and released Journey of a Gemini in 2006. Some of his singles from that release are "Better Start Talking" with Jermaine Dupri, "I’m Gonna Be" featuring Clipse and "Ooh Na Na." Like the title suggests, this album showcases two sides of the artist, the good and the bad. In 2007, Jones put out his first greatest hits album entitled The Best of Donell Jones. He continues to write and record music and fans will surely be able to enjoy his music for some time, whether it is being sung by Jones himself or by one of the many popular artists that love his music.
