"Dragonette formed out of the solo work of Canadian Martina Sorbara, daughter of Ontario's provincial government Finance Minister Greg Sorbara. The singer continued on a successful solo path for several years, releasing the album The Cure for Bad Deeds in 2002 before meeting up with bassist Dan Kurtz. Kurtz and Sorbara's relationship was initially an adulterous one, Kurtz already in a relationship when the two started working together and falling in love. Kurtz was formerly of the Toronto based jazz electronica group the New Deal. Their first single together, ""Competition,"" shows the world their rambunctious and rebellious free loving style. Initially calling themselves The Fuzz, the two love birds toured with New Order and began opening for United States acts like Duran Duran and others. During this time their first EP was released, titled Dragonette and included the soon to be group's most popular singles, including ""Jesus Doesn't Love Me,"" ""I Get Around"" and ""Competition.""When Dragonette finally came together in 2005 it was with the help of guitarist Simon Craig and drummer Joel Stouffer. The group's demo was released on their own but easily caught the attention of Mercury Records, which the group signed to just a year later. When Dragonette moved to London, Craig was replaced by British guitarist Will Stapleton. They began supporting their first few singles, which included 2007's ""I Get Around,"" with other UK acts like Basement Jaxx and the Sugababes as well as attending the Glastonbury Festival 2007. The group's debut album, Galore, featured more hit singles like ""Take It like a Man,"" ""Competition"" and a Calvin Harris cover. Galore first appeared in 2007 before being released in 2008 with I Surrender Records."
