"Best known for their international hit ""Unbelievable,"" EMF donned backwards caps and baggy jeans reminiscent of any US boy band of the ‘90s. The group, consisting of vocalist James Atkin, guitarist Ian Dench, keyboardist Derry Brownson, bassist Zachary Foley and drummer Mark Decloedt, was formed in Cinderford, England in 1989. All veterans in the music biz, the boys named their quartet ""Epsom Mad Funkers"" and combined British dance music with hard rock for a funky/punk sound. The single that put them on the map was the Jesus Jones inspired ""Unbelievable,"" which was released in 1990 under their EMI contract. The group saw instant success as the single topped the UK charts and crossed an ocean to reach the number one spot on the US charts a year later. They released their debut album, Schubert' Dip, which mashed together all their singles EMF had previously presented to audiences.Their teenage antics only got them so far, as EMF's sophomore effort, Stigma, hardly created a stir in comparison to its predecessor. The group attempted to parade as something other than what they were - teenagers, and aimed to stray away from their large teenage fan base. The direction they took, less pop and more rock, along with a location change to party-central Los Angeles, resulted in something hardly believable. The 1995 album Cha Cha Cha told fans that EMF wasn't in hiatus and presented a more mature, rocker edge to the group adored by so many pre-teens. They continued to work in the studio, but as Cha Cha Cha and an EP failed on the charts, they were dropped from their label. Since then, they have continued to tour and have helped out in their hometown Forest of Dean, where James Atkin started a recording facility open to college students."
