When the Tim McGraw-Faith Hill duet “It’s Your Love” hit number one in the country charts for six straight weeks in 1997, it was clear who the most powerful couple in the country genre was. The beautiful Faith Hill had come from rather humble beginnings, but with her natural singing talent, heartfelt songs and determination, she was able to forge a path to the top of the genre. Her marriage to fellow country sensation Tim McGraw only solidified Faith as a force to be reckoned with among country music’s elite stars. Born in Jackson, Mississippi as Audrey Faith Perry, Faith Hill credits Reba McEntire as being one of her main early influences. The young Faith took to singing like a fish to the sea, as her parents watched as she happily sang along to any song that would cross her path. And her natural ability was clearly apparent. Before too long Hill was regularly performing in front of audiences and for a while she was part of a rodeo band. It wasn’t until she slipped her foot in the door as a secretary at a music publishing firm that she really caught some beaks on the rode to fame. Gary Morris, the head of her firm, noticed that Faith had a voice one day when he happened upon her singing a song to herself. She was soon a talent working for the company as a demo singer, but only for a short while before another, bigger big wig took notice and signed her to a Warner Brother’s deal. And the rest, as they say, is history. Hill burst onto the country scene with her debut album, Take Me As I Am, which featured the radio hit “Wild One.” The title track of the record, along with “Piece of My Heart” also hit it big in the country charts, securing even more stepping stones on the path to the peak of the country music genre. In 1995 came It Matters To Me, another album with a super-successful title track. Hill’s sometimes raspy voice was becoming all the rage with fans of her music at the time she began touring on the Spontaneous Combustion Tour with Tim McGraw. There certainly was some heat between the two rising stars, as a whirlwind romance wile on the road lead to a marriage between the two in 1996. The publicity of their power marriage combined with the popularity of their duet “It’s Your Love” shot their two careers into overdrive. And they’ve never looked back since. Albums like Faith, Breathe, Cry, and Firefies carried Faith Hill in to the next millennium as one of the most recognizable voices and faces in music. Dozens of singles, including hits like "The Way You Love Me," "Mississippi Girl," "Breathe," "Let Me Let Go" and "This Kiss" will be heard regularly on country and pop stations for years and years to come.
