Faithless Biography

Rocking the club scene worldwide in the late 1990s and early 2000s with funky beats keeping the whole place dancing until dawn, the house/trance group Faithless has evolved into four individual artists producing hypnotic yet rousing music around the clock. A mix of DJs, vocalists and spin and mix masters, Faithless took the '90s by storm, infusing house music into nightclubs across the world.Hailing from London, England, the group began making music together as a duo in 1993. The original group members, Rollo and Sister Bliss, each had their own side projects while working together to spin music. Rollo, who produced the club hit “Don’t You Want Me” as Felix in 1992, also worked with artists like the Pet Shop Boys and Bjork, while Sister Bliss, a genius on the piano and violin, had been recording singles since 1987. The two music prodigies worked together until 1995, when Faithless expanded to include vocalists Jamie Catto and Maxi Jazz, who were both previously in the music industry. The quartet released hugely successful singles “Salva Mea,” “Insomnia” and “Reverence,” and combined with Faithless’ debut album Reverence, the group was unstoppable. Signing with major label Arista in 1997, the group’s 1998 album Sunday 8pm and 1999’s Saturday 3am (a collection of remixes) gave Faithless something to brag about. The group’s next album Back to Mine was released in 2001, and the follow-up album Outrospective quickly followed. In 2004 Faithless picked up another vocalist, LSK, and soon thereafter released the new and quieter album No Roots and then Everything Will Be Alright Tomorrow.Since 2004, Faithless has released two more albums, Renaissance Presents 3D and To All New Arrivals. A Forever Faithless Greatest Hits album was also released in 2005, making the Billboard chart for the European Top 100 Albums.

While any of Faithless’ songs can be played on repeat for a 24-hour rave, it is the group’s remarkable ability to turn mesmerizing beats into full-fledged insomnia-ridden songs that has kept Faithless’ music raging in nightclubs across the world for more than 10 years. The Jamiroquai-inspired music that Faithless taps out into a mixture of compelling and almost jungle-like beats, along with occasional soothing female lyrics and the rare but trademark vocals of Maxi Jazz, creates a genre of electronic music that was rarely dabbled in prior to Faithless’ 1995 musical debut.Faithless’ 1998 release Sunday 8pm has an almost religious aura about it, giving off the feel of a spiritual and dreamy place where dancefloors resonate peacefully in between reality and the heavens. “Why Go?,” one of the group’s most well-known tracks, pounds the words “Why Go” into oblivion with an almost eerie sense of repetition, as the lyrics are sure to float around in the depths of your mind all day long. “Why Go?” is also available as a music ringtone from Playphone, and Playphone contains both the Hoxton Whores Su-Sha Mix of the song, as well as the Redanka Vocal Mix. Either version, in true Faithless fashion, will make it impossible not to bounce around the room while listening.
