Winner of season three of Fox's American Idol, R&B queen Fantasia has put the idol's stage in the past as she proves that America's results weren't the only thing that kept audiences tuning in. Fantasia's raspy voice, from her North Carolina roots, makes her sound one of a kind. The pop/R&B artist, born Fantasia Barrino, was an unlikely candidate from the start, as a single mother and just legal 19-year-old.After winning the American Idol title, Fantasia signed with J Records by BMG U.S. Chairman & CEO Clive Davis, and broke records with the release of her first single, "I Believe," written by Idol alum Tamyra Gray, which became the first debut in history to reach number one. Her debut album Free Yourself reached the eighth spot on the Billboard 200 and peaked at number two on the Top R&B chart. Fantasia plans on making her Broadway debut in the musical The Color Purple.Since she burst into the industry, Fantasia has garnered more than 20 nominations in everything from the Teen Choice Awards to the Grammys. The 22-year-old has won Outstanding Female Artist at the NAACP Image Awards and the Top-Selling Single of the Year for "I Believe" at the Billboard Music Awards. As she continues to work on her own style, she's also made guest appearances on other albums, including 2006's Happy Feet movie soundtrack, where she performs with Patti LaBelle and Yolanda Adam's for Stevie Wonder's "I Wish."
