When Feeder came onto the scene in the mid 1990s, they brought with them a rock sound that wasn't afraid to dabble in indie rock, experiment with metal music and add in a little piano. The band consisted first of British duo Grant Nicholas on vocals and guitar and Jon Lee on the drums. They had met while playing with the band Temper Temper and added bassist Taka Hirose before Feeder was completed. They got a contract in 1995 with Echo and released a few singles before dropping their first album, Polythene in 1997, which was certified silver in the UK.Feeder was gaining traction in Europe, but had yet to find worldwide or U.S. success. They released the gold album Yesterday Went Too Soon in 1999 followed by the platinum album Echo Park in 2001. The latter scored them top hits and more recognition. While working on their next album, however, Jon Lee committed suicide in January of 2002. His band mates decided to persevere despite the loss and added drummer Mark Richardson of Skunk Anansie. They released the album Comfort Sound not long after and the sound is understandably darker on this album, which was certified platinum.Pushing the Senses was released in 2005 and was certified gold in sales. The band took awhile to release their next album, Silent Cry, which dropped in 2008. The reason for the delay was that Feeder took time do progress their sound while still making sure they stayed true to the roots of their music. Rumors have circulated about the band breaking up numerous times, but the trio keeps pushing on to make more and more great tracks. They have also continued to tour around the world to keep their fan base satisfied and waiting for their next album.
