Rap artist, Flo Rida is a talented MC from Carol City, Florida who was inspired by his incredibly musically talented father to pursue self-expression through music. He has been widely recognized as one of today's "It" men of hip-hop. Flo Rida was the youngest child proceeded by seven sisters who formed a local gospel group until one sister died. This spurred Flo Rida to pursue his art more seriously, and in ninth grade he began rapping with two childhood friends, forming the group Groudhoggz. He still considers himself a part of this group today. The group found some local success but Rida's career really took off when he followed in the footsteps of his brother-in-law, becoming the hype man for one of the members of 2 Live Crew. This new step took him out of Florida on a nationwide tour. Before leaving, his group had consented to have him produce a solo demo. He was taken under the wing of A&R, but life was difficult for a while as he promoted his music. He sometimes had to resort to living on the streets.Calls from Poe Boy Entertainment prompted him to return to Florida, where he found his big break. He was signed first with Poe Boy and then Atlanta in 2006. His debut album, Mail on Sunday, was released on March 18m, 2008, revealing him as a musician to be reckoned with. His hit single "Low" from the album topped the charts and stayed there for a considerable time, declaring Flo Rida as a musician who is here for the long haul. His next album is set to solidify him as one of the lasting, and most well-developed artists of southern hip-hop.
