"Fountains of Wayne is an American power pop band and they have really fired up their listeners. The group was formed in 1996 and is comprised of members Adam Schlesinger, Chris Collingwood, Brian Young and Jody Porter. The band formed after the members met as freshmen in college and eventually began playing music together. They released their self-titled debut in 1996, which spawned the singles ""Radiation Vibe"" and ""Sink to the Bottom."" It was the introduction to a young, but exceptionally talented band, eager to make their imprint on the stage.In 1999, Fountains of Wayne released its second album to critical acclaim and it was called Utopia Parkway. The record itself was labeled as a concept record that primarily seemed to focus on life in modern day suburbia. Although the album failed to spawn any notable singles, it did get raving reviews from critics and was hailed by fans as another success for the emerging band. Shortly after its release the members decided to embark on a brief hiatus, with the intent of reforming later. The time finally came in 2001 when the band recorded a cover of The Kinks' ""Better Things"" for a tribute album.They followed up with Welcome Interstate Managers, which spawned the successful single, ""Stacy's Mom."" The record became somewhat of an international hit for the band, their first taste of worldwide stardom. They followed up ""Stacy's Mom"" with another track, called ""Mexican Wine"" that fared just as well among fans. The band went on to released Out of State Plates and Traffic and Weather, both to critical acclaim."
