Geri Halliwell

Geri Halliwell Biography

"From Ginger Spice to spicy solo act, Londoner Geri Halliwell has held the ranks for girl power over the last two decades. Leaving the insanely popular girl group the Spice Girls for her own solo career, Halliwell has become one of the trademark pop acts on the music scene.Once a topless model and Turkish game show hostess, Halliwell's penchant for publicity was established early on. In 1994 the fiery redhead saw an advertisement for a new all-girl vocal group, and along with Victoria Adams (Posh Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Halliwell became known as Ginger Spice, one fifth of the sassy teen pop group the Spice Girls. Halliwell sported heavy make-up and provocative skin-baring clothing as she became the staple saucy personality of the Spice Girls, and singles like ""Wannabe,"" ""2 Become 1"" and ""Spice Up Your Life"" made the bubblegum quintet an international success overnight. Riding the girl group wave, Halliwell enjoyed great success as Ginger Spice but eventually exited the group in 1998 after rumors of conflict in the band.Toning down her edgy image, Halliwell was (surprisingly) nominated as a United Nations ambassador in 1998. She also dedicated immense time and effort to the fight against breast cancer, and in 1999 the powerful vocalist embarked on a solo music career. The British vocalist debuted on the solo scene with the hit single ""Look at Me,"" going straight to the top of the UK pop charts. The album Schizophonic was released soon thereafter, and Halliwell also cashed in with an autobiography entitled If Only. 2001 brought the fun-loving album release Scream If You Wanna Go Faster,"" and another book Just for the Record and a couple instructional yoga videos left her with one more solo album to date, 2005's Passion."

"Spice is nice, but Geri Halliwell wants more. Halliwell may be best known for her performances in the 1990s with British teen pop craze the Spice Girls, but the saucy former Ginger Spice has also made a splash in the music industry as a solo success. Halliwell was the Spice Girls' go-to woman, the ringleader in the pack, and her accomplishments as a solo artist have solidified her as perhaps the most successful of the Spice Girls (despite previous band mate Victoria's highly-public relationship with David Beckham).Halliwell scored on the charts with her solo single ""Look at Me,"" the landmark song that marked her reemergence in the music realm. Her album Scream If You Wanna Go Faster also contributed to her solo success, and Halliwell's cover of the disco favorite ""It's Raining Men"" hit the charts in 2001. ""It's Raining Men"" is a classic girl power track, and Halliwell's rendition of the song can be found on PlayPhone as a downloadable polyphonic ringtone, perfect for the powerful boy-crazy lady. Download the hit song as your next ringtone and you'll be singing ""Hallelujah, it's raining men"" every time your phone rings!"
