Great White

Great White Biography

"One of the infamous hair bands of the 1980s metal scene, Great White experienced smash success with their double platinum album ...Twice Shy, which was spearheaded by the single ""Once Bitten Twice Shy.""Formed in 1982, Great White spent their early days playing the Los Angeles club scene and gaining a significant local following thanks to their AC-DC-inspired aggressive metal. EMI signed the group and released a self-titled album that didn't do much for the general public. Great White spent the first half of the decade that they'd become so closely associated with relatively unsuccessful on a large scale. In 1987, their album Once Bitten... garnered the group significant attention and, more importantly, paved the way for 1989's ...Twice Shy, which served as a sequel of sorts to the aforementioned Once Bitten..., as the corresponding successions of periods would suggest. Bolstered by the single ""Once Bitten Twice Shy,"" the album was a huge hit and seated Great White among the big hair royalty of the decade.1992's Psycho City didn't fare well and EMI cut ties with the group after a 1993 best of album. The group spent the ‘90s jumping from label to label and fading from the limelight until a tragic incident brought their name back into the headlines in 2003 after the band's pyrotechnics, a trademark of ‘80s hair bands, ignited a fire in a Rhode Island nightclub, killing 100 people. Among the 100 killed was the band's guitarist, Ty Longley. Unfortunately, this incident is all some people remember of the band. While Great White has continued to release music, cutting a record as recently as 2007, their pinnacle was reached in 1989 with ""Once Bitten Twice Shy."" The song serves as one of the many anthems that so characterizes a decade of big hair, babes and loud music."
