"They started out as Green Jello, but at a quick change of heart decided to go with Green Jelly. The reason for the silly name to begin with was their apparent distaste for the strange food item. They contended that the quality of their music was also bordering on the popularity of green jello and never once seemed to try to sound good in front of a microphone but instead masked their vocal inabilities by accumulating massive amounts of props and ridiculous costumes. At one point Green Jelly was considered the world's worst band, which perhaps was a high point for the members, although their popularity began to grow after they met the equally odd band, Gwar in 1988 and learned to personally make all of their own props and costumes. This attracted the interest of a small group of fans, and Green Jelly persevered onward with bizarre stage appearances and an unusual cartoonish look. The band first formed in 1981 and became even more prominent throughout the early-mid 1990s. They gained fame after they agreed to sign with Zoo Records as a video only band. Their first release was Cereal Killer, which lived up to its goofiness and turned out to be a sort of parody of thrash, heavy metal and alternative rock music. One of their standout tracks from the effort continues to be ""Three Little Pigs,"" although they also found success with ""Obey the Cowgod"" and ""Electric Harley House (Of Love).""Times were not always easy for Green Jelly, as they faced lawsuits for trademark infringement. They also took some heat from cereal companies who were not thrilled that several of their mascots were getting brutally murdered in the popular tune ""Cereal Killer."" Of course, Green Jelly enjoyed a wide cult following, and none of these instances particularly deterred the members. They just kept on producing comedic content that above all else was at least wildly entertaining."
