Rap seems to have two hubs, the East Coast and the West Coast. The fact that the G.R.i.T. Boys hail from Houston, Texas is an even bigger testament to this group's talent and ability to garner respect in the rap community. Members of the group Pretty Todd, Poppy, Scooby and Unique all attended Worthing High School in the south side of Houston. Scooby and Unique knew each other since both were children and had rapped with each other almost as long. Poppy was signed to Gameface Records, where he met Todd in production. Todd met Scooby when he was a substitute teacher at Scooby's high school.The foursome started to take shape when Todd took both Scooby and Unique to Gameface records. They knew they had stumbled onto something special when the four started rapping together and heard the unmatched sound. They started creating a buzz for themselves around the Houston area by releasing underground albums like Nuttin' But W's, Word on the Street and Heart of a Hustler. The underground releases soon started to catch on in other parts of the country as well. Appearing on other rapper's albums like Lil O, Hawk and Color Changin' Clicks.G.R.i.T. Boys released their first marketed studio album in 2007 called Ghetto Reality in Texas, which is what G.R.i.T stands for. The group creates music that reflects what they were surrounded by in south Houston. It was a place where life was difficult, but people worked to keep their lives together. They do not claim to be gangsta, because that is not what Houston is all about. Through their hard work, dedication and talent, G.R.i.T. Boys showed the rap community that Houston is a hotbed for rhyming talent. Fans are waiting to see what their next release will bring.
