You may want to get your groove on to their music, but just don't call the English band Hot Chip a dance-oriented group. The reason the band dislikes that label so much is because of the emotionless beats that are typical to the genre. Hot Chip, on the other hand, are as much poets as they are musicians and add a dose of heartfelt lyrics to every track. The sound of the band owes much of its success to the vocals of Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard. They started out taking an electronic feel and adding in elements of R&B and their own creative writing to create a sound both unique and intriguing.They self-released Sanfrandisco E-pee in 2002, which introduced the band as one who was not afraid to experiment or bring in their sense of humor into their music. They soon had a record deal and released the perhaps presumptuously titled Coming on Strong. It turns out, the title was more prophesy than pretense as the album ended up drawing in numerous fans and leading to an even bigger record deal. It was re-released on their new DFA Records label in 2005.The next year brought the release of The Warning, an album that showed that the group had matured their sound and created a group of tracks with depth. The album was not only a success in their native UK but also hopped the pond to make it to number 13 on the Top Electronic Albums chart in the United States. By the time they released Made in the Dark in 2008, Hot Chip was an international hit. Made in the Dark did even better than previous releases, climbing to number one on the Top Heatseekers chart, number two on the Top Electronic Albums and number 109 on the Billboard 200.
