Huey Biography
Rapper Huey (a.k.a. Baby Huey) grew up on the 50 block of Arlington Avenue in St. Louis. Born in the same town that birthed artists like the Dirty South stars Chingy, Nelly and Ludicrous, Huey became interested in music at an early age. He took his talent to the street at the age 15 and was met with enthusiasm, interest and genuine encouragement. Starting out writing songs for fun, his brother introduced him to musical veteran Angela Richardson, who was looking for new talent at the time. Without hesitation she took him on as her primary project, booking him at every available venue in St. Louis.Huey grew in popularity as his songs “Oh” and “Pop, Lock and Drop it” became favorites with DJs. Promoters began pushing his mixtapes onto college campuses and his name began to be more widely recognized. One of his mixes, Unsigned Hype sold out of 8000 copies and caught the ear of producer TJ Chapman. Chapman introduced Huey to Micky “MeMphiTz” Wright Vice President of A&R and Jive Records in early 2006. The Notebook Paper, Huey’s debut album was released mid-2007, and met with enthusiasm as fans began shouting for more.Huey’s business-like attitude has caused him to be described as a young Master P. He has relentlessly pursued profit, attaining an industry-driven reputation association with Russel Simmons. His musical drive and attitude has brought him comparisons with 2Pac. Despite his success, Huey remains loyal to his hometown of St. Louis. Five years into his career he speaks about the industry like a seasoned veteran, and despite the negative press he has received as a rapper, he continues to be a straight-up artist, shooting for the gold.
