He has been in the music industry for more than three decades, and Ian McCulloch is continuing to make music that inspires his listeners and influences the industry. He first started in the music scene as part of the trio Crucial Three. The collaboration did not last, however, and he soon moved on to create the successful English pop group Echo and the Bunnymen in 1978. The original lineup had McCulloch on vocals and guitar, Will Sergeant on guitar, Less Pattinson on bass and Pete De Freitas on drums. The group released a series of his albums throughout the 1980s, building a reputation as one of the top bands in the pop genre. In 1988, McCulloch decided to move on and pursue a solo career. Along with not being in the band, McCulloch also had to deal with the death of his father. He released his first solo album, Candleland, in 1989, which made waves both in his home country and abroad. He followed it up with another release, Mysterio, in 1992, but the reception wasn't as warm. After the release, McCulloch virtually disappeared from the music scene, focusing instead on his family. He did team up with Sergeant to form Electrafixion a few years later.By the late 1990s, Echo and the Bunnymen were looking to reunite, and McCulloch was on board. They released a new album in 1997, followed by What Are You Going To Do with Your Life in 1999 and Flowers in 2001. The releases were followed by successful tours and also led to McCulloch getting another solo deal. He released his next solo effort, Slideling, in 2003. The album was praised by critics, who saw this album as a culmination of McCulloch's vast musical experience. He has continued to release albums with Echo and the Bunnymen as well, with their latest release coming out in 2008.
