Intocable Biography
In the late 1990's Intocable was one of the most successful tejano bands out there. Intocable's brand of tejano is norteño (cowboy), characterized by its polka rhythms, use of the accordion, and general style. Intocable, with its Texas origins and pop frontman Ricky Muñoz, was noticeably different than more traditional norteño groups like Conjunto Primavera and Los Tigres del Norte. Tejano in its original form is similar to Louisiana folk music and the subtle differences between Intocable and other tejano bands set them apart. Intocable experienced mass popularity that rivaled Latin pop stars Thalia and Paulina Rubio. Although Intocable never experienced international success due to their regional appeal, they filled arenas with tens of thousands of fans during each performance. At the height of their success, Intocable was regularly rewarded with Latin Grammy awards and other accolades. In the early 1990's friends Ricky Muñoz (lead vocals and accordion) and René Martínez (drums) formed Intocable in Zapata, Texas. The band grew to include Dany Sánchez (bajo sexton, second vocals), Sergio Serna (percussion), Félix Salinas (electric bass), Johnny Lee Rosas (bajo sexton, choruses) and Juan Hernández (group animation, rhythms). In a tragic auto accident in 1999, Intocable band members Silvestre Rodríguez (electric bass), José Angel Farías (group animation, rhythms) and road manager José Angel González were lost in an automobile accident.Intocable released their first album, Simplemente... in 1993 before switching labels to EMI Latin and recording their major label debut, 1994's Fuego Eterno. The picked up speed with their next record in 1995, Otro Mundo and 1996's Llévame Contigo, which made it to the coveted number one spot on the regional Mexican chart. The band continued on an upward journey until the fatal car crash that claimed the lives of two band members and that of their band manager. Subsequent to the tragedy, the band took a hiatus to recover from their loss before releasing their comeback album, Contigo, which began a trail of successive albums and tours.
