"There's only one Australian outfit that has the gruff vocals and rockstar guitar riffs to take American rock music by the horns, and Jet has done a marvelous job of including their punk rock tendencies into a modern feel-good type of rock ‘n roll music. The funky foursome from Melbourne has become a worshipped group of rebels across the globe, initiating a freewheeling garage punk style in the early 2000s that has won them sales into the deep millions and numerous music awards through the years.Jet was birthed in the early 2000s by brothers Chris Cester (drums) and Nic Cester (guitar/vocals), alongside Cameron Muncey (guitar/vocals) and Mark Wilson (bass). Itching to make it past Melbourne, the ambitious Aussies quickly released their debut EP, Dirty Sweet, in 2002. The album was a vinyl-only production, and the 1,000 limited copies they produced quickly sold out. Taking this initial success as a cue to hit the road, Jet embarked on a U.K./American takeover. A record deal with Elektra resulted in early 2003, and the label re-released Dirty Sweet to higher acclaim. The Rolling Stones courted Jet to open in their Australian tour, and soon thereafter Jet released their debut full-length album, 2003's Get Born. The album gained the rockers immeasurable success, landing at number 26 on the Billboard 200 while the singles ""Are You Gonna Be My Girl"" and ""Cold Hard B****"" took off on the charts, as well, the latter becoming Jet's first number one single. Get Born also sparked many awards, including seven ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) nominations. After living through the success of Get Born, Jet took off on a European tour with Oasis in 2005, thereafter releasing Shine On, the band's 2006 release. As much of a success as Get Born was, Shine On proved to be an even better follow-up album, peaking at the number 16 slot on the Billboard 200."
