After a slew of guest appearances on albums, production contributions, appearances in videos and starting the Diplomat label, Harlem-based rapper and businessman Jim Jones released his debut album, On My Way to Church, in 2004. The record cracked the Top 20 and featured a variety of rap styles. The album heavily featured Jones’ running mate and business partner Cam’ron. Jones had been at Cam’Ron’s side since his arrival in the rap game in 1997. Nonetheless, it took Jones seven years to release an album of his own.Jones followed with 2005’s Diary of a Summer and, in 2006, dropped Hustler’s P.O.M.E. (Product of My Environment). The album’s massive hit "We Fly High" took him to a new level of popularity as an MC and solidified him as a legitimate rapper. The track climbed to number five on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the Hot Rap Tracks chart and was embraced by the New York Giants football team as their unofficial anthem. Jones followed his smash hit with Harlem’s American Gangster. Jones then released his most recent album, Ambitionz of a Gangster.Jones wears a multitude of hats in the rap industry. He’s a label owner, a producer, a hype man and an MC, among other things. Jones has shown his ability as a rapper and his ambition to succeed in that light is evident. His single "We Fly High" was one of 2007’s biggest songs and a favorite ringtone of the year as well.There is no telling where Jones will pop up next. It could be as a guest on the album of one of his label’s stable of artists, in a video for a hit single, as a man behind the scenes who contributed in the studio production of a record or on his next album. This versatile mogul surely has bigger plans that what the world has seen.
