Josh Wink

Josh Wink Biography

"Josh Wink is one of the most important and influential artists in the world of electronica. He rose to fame in the early 1990s, after he'd built up an ironclad reputation within underground, hardcore club music circles in America, and eventually hit it big in Europe and around the world. Nowadays Josh Wink continues to spin records with his palms and twist bodies with his beats. You can expect that this granddaddy of techno will keep dance music as lively as ever well into the 2010s.Growing up in Philadelphia in the 1970s and ‘80s, Josh Wink (born Josh Winkleman) was influenced by a wide range of musical genres, but mostly punk rock and disco. He learned the piano while he was in grade school, but found out that his real enthusiasm was for DJing by his high school years. By the time he was 18, DJ Wink, as he was being called back then, was getting regular work as a DJ for nightclubs in and around Philly. He met and worked with DJ King Britt, who had already built up local following.DJ Britt and DJ Wink formed a dynamic duo in the burgeoning rave scene in America in the early and mid-1990s. They toured extensively and made music under multiple different labels until 1994, when they decided to form their own, Ovum Records. Josh Wink, who sometimes goes by the nicknames E-Culture, Winx and Size 9, is famous for singles like ""Don't Laugh,"" ""I'm Ready,"" ""Higher State of Consciousness,"" ""How's Your Evening So Far?"" and ""Superfreak (Freak)."" Running contrary to the prevailing stereotypes of club music, DJ Wink is famously vegetarian and drug-free, a lifestyle which has earned him accolades within the electronica genre, as well as with more mainstream music aficionados."
