Aussie Keith Urban has been an instant success from the day he showed up in Nashville donning a cowboy hat, tight jeans, thick accent and dazzling smile. Obtaining huge followings and several awards in both Australia and the U.S., the freewheeling blonde has brought rock music into the country music regime to produce hits that have changed the ways of traditional country music, leaving both his fans and admirers speechless.Growing up in Australia, Urban learned to play the guitar ate age six after a woman advertised guitar lessons in his father's shop window. He prepared himself for stage performances through his youth with extracurricular activities including acting, singing and dancing, and he looked to American country artists like Glen Campbell, Dolly Parton and Dire Straits for musical inspiration. Enamored with American country music and culture, Urban started a career in Australia but quickly moved on to the country music mecca in Nashville. Urban started the trio the Ranch in Nashville in 1997, and the group's eponymous debut album caught the eyes of several people in the music industry. When the Ranch eventually broke up, artists like Garth Brooks and the Dixie Chicks swooped in, inviting Urban to play parts of their songs. After touring with Dwight Yoakam, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Urban officially launched his solo career, and his self-titled debut solo album graced country music with its presence in 1999. The album landed at number 17 on the Top Country Albums chart, and Urban hasn't looked back since.Since 1999, Urban has been famed with three hit albums, seven number one songs on the country charts, two Grammy Awards (one for the song "You'll Think of Me" in 2005 and another for "Stupid Boy" in 2007,) and topping off the singer's hefty list of accomplishments was marrying actress Nicole Kidman in 2006.
