La Ley

La Ley Biography

"La Ley (Spanish for ""the Law"") is a Spanish techno pop group that emerged from the disheveled pieces of several other groups. Formed by ex-Aparto Raro member Rodrigo Aboitiz, ex-Paraiso Pardido member Andres Bobe, and ex-Nadie member Shia Arbulu, the group issued their first EP in 1989 before Aboitiz and Arbulu departed. Left alone, Bobe found ex-Pancho Puelma drummer Mauricio Claveria, ex-Paraiso Perdido member Luciano Rojas and newbie Beto Cuevas to complete what was left of La Ley.Together they released the single ""Desierto"" followed by their debut, full length album Doble Opuesto, which included the number one hit single ""Angie,"" a cover of The Rolling Stones single of the same name. As the group was achieving rock star status, Bobe died in a car accident. The group pressed on and released their self titled sophomore effort in 1992 with new guitarist Pedro Frugone. Over the next few years they released several more albums, including 1995's Invisible and 1998's Vertigo. After Vertigo was released, Rojas joined former member Aboitiz's new band, Saiko.La Ley continued to create more music that was becoming less experimental and more typical of the Latin pop flavors that so many other artists were creating. Their next two albums, Uno from 2000 and Libertad, 2003, were less dark than their previous work but still earned them Latin Grammy Awards. When the boys performed during MTV's Unplugged, they created a live album out of the 2001 adventure, which went on to win a Grammy. In 2004 they released a Greatest Hits album, followed by an indefinite hiatus after their Latin American tour in 2005."
