Landon Pigg was born in Nashville, TN before his family relocated to Chicago, where he spent much of his childhood before returning to Nashville for some of his more formative adolescent years. Pigg began studying music through the record collection of his father, who was a studio musician. Pigg’s musical education progressed as he started a collection of his own, which contained the work of many of his influences. Pigg combines catchy hooks ala the Beatles, emotionally charged-lyrics in the mold of Radiohead and melodic composition comparable to Rufus Wainwright to form his own style that has propelled him into the music industry.Much of his subject matter concerns common teenage themes such as love, acceptance and confusion. There is a definite poetic feel to Pigg’s songs, which likely stems from the fact that his mother writes poetry and has been imparting words of wisdom on her son since the day he was born. Pigg has combined the work of a musician father and poet mother to create a blend of the two forms, something not entirely revolutionary but still uncommon. His debut album, LP, was released in 2006. It was a hit with teenage audiences who craved introspective thoughts that touch on adolescent matters of interest. Pigg’s voice is sweet-sounding and honest, like everything he’s telling you truly happened just the way he says. Pigg worked with a number of prominent producers on his album such as Dan Brodbeck, Paul Ebersold and Clif Magness, who have helped bolster the careers of Avril Lavigne and 3 Doors Down. Some of the most impressive tracks on LP include "Sailed On" and "Last Stop."Pigg says he had never taken a guitar lesson when he began writing music and considers that kind of musical ignorance to be a benefit when it comes to breaking down barriers. It’s apparent that Pigg doesn’t want to necessarily fit into some kind of predetermined mold of music. His indie-pop style isn’t changing the face of the music industry as we know it, but there’s always room for an artist who isn’t afraid to take risks. It should prove interesting to see where Landon Pigg takes his music or, perhaps, where the music takes him.
