The 1990s were a breeding ground for heavy metal rock music, and the standout New York rockers Life of Agony used this appeal to their favor, pushing out gobs of hit singles and albums in their short-lived career as a band. Life of Agony used their amazing talents to light up the Billboard charts with some of their angst-ridden hardcore music, and the era of heavy metal wouldn't have been the same without the ambitious rockers.Formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1989, Life of Agony debuted on the music scene with original members Keith Caputo (vocals), Joey Z. (guitar) and Alan Robert (bass), enjoying success on the New York underground circuit while going through drummers like crazy. Eventually scoring a record deal with Roadrunner Records, Life of Agony recruited former Type O Negative drummer Sal Abruscato and welcomed him onboard as the band's newest member, immediately hitting the ground running with L.O.A.'s debut album River Runs Red in 1993. The album featured a strong sense of aggression and energy, sending the rockers flying on a string of tour dates that helped gain them an incredible fan base. Following up their debut album with 1995's Ugly, Life of Agony dabbled in a more alternative style (think Stone Temple Pilots) before returning to their classic thrash metal sound. The band scored an opening gig for rockers Ozzy Osbourne, Korn, Type O Negative and Anthrax following their '95 release, and Life of Agony was on a roll until 1997, when lead singer Caputo unexpectedly resigned from the band.Life of Agony went on without Caputo until 1999, but the missing piece of their founding member and lead singer left a hole that could never be replaced. The band announced their breakup in 1999, reuniting with the original members in 2003 for two live performances and another studio album Broken Valley in 2005.
