Alternative rock group, Lit was formed in 1990. Their sound is an unusual mix of rock and alternative, which is unique to them, making their music both recognizable and sought after. Front man A. Jay Popoff, his guitarist brother Jeremy, Kevin Baldes the bassist and the drummer Allen Shellenberger formed the band in Orange County, CA. In 1999 they set the rock scene on fire. Their hit debut album A Place in the Sun went certified platinum. It also generated two hit singles, and after almost ten years of hard work they became a raging success. The band has recently made the news in their home county, setting up a benefit concert for their drummer, Shellenberger, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2008. Other bands that participated were Sugar Ray, Handsome Devil, Mo Bigsley and Good Man Down. The band has shown that nothing can, or will get them down as they stand beside their friend. They have lived up to their mission, not getting too caught up in the commercial side of the business, the band has focused on their music and continued to pursue their goal of bringing hot live shows to their fans.Since their hit album was released in '99 the group has produced two other albums, including Atomic which they released on October 16, 2001. It is an album that satisfied fans and produced the single "Lipstick and Bruises" which hit the charts at number ten on Modern Rock Tracks. The other album that hit shelves on June 22, 2004, the eponymous album Lit presented their fans with yet another solid record. The album was declared their best album at that point, and fans are looking forward to their next installment. Earlier albums include Tripping the Light Fantastic and Five Smokin' Tracks from Lit.
