"R&B singer Lloyd Polite has been on a rollercoaster ride in the music industry.Born in New Orleans but raised in Atlanta, Lloyd was born into a musical household. His mother played piano and sang in the church choir while his father directed that choir and played saxophone. He was first introduced to the ""real"" music industry when he met Joyce Irby, a member of the girl group Klymaxx, at his performing arts school. The two created the R&B group Ntoon, which later included Justin Clark and Everett Hall. The group signed to Dreamworks Records and released the album Toon Time in 2000. The group toured together, but quickly dissolved as the Dreamworks sound was not prepared for an R&B group like Irby's.After the demise of NToon, Irby and Lloyd worked on their solo careers attempting to grab the attention of record labels. Lloyd found an early home in Magic Johnson's label, MJM. His 2001 CD Oh My Lloyd released the single ""Hey Young Girl"" but never saw an album release due to the label's falling. After that, he caught the attention of label exec L.A. Reid. When Reid became head of Def Jam Records, Lloyd turned to friend Irv Gotti who had just merged his Murder Inc. label with the Def Jam-associated The Inc. Gotti singed the budding star and paired him with fellow label mate, Ashanti, for the single ""Southside."" The single topped BET's play list.He continued to record with most southern artists, like 8 Ball and MJG, Snoop Dogg, Roy Jones and more. The duet with Ashanti became the title track for his album released in July 2004. He released Street Love in 2007 with the number two Billboard hit ""Get it Shawty."" A year later he released Lessons in Love, and collaborated with Lil Wayne with ""Girls Around the World."""
