"Mainstay initially formed in the suburbs of Minnesota and that is where they established their punk rock roots. They started out as somewhat of a garage band and inclu, ded members Justin Anderson (vocals and guitar), Ryan DeYounge (drums) and Dan Ostebo (bass). After years of trying to figure out the direction of their music, they finally settled on a brand of melodic rock tinged with a profound Christian message. Many fans responded positively to this move, and they started gathering fans who would flock to local venues to hear the group play. Although Mainstay was thrilled with their small, yet devoted group of fans, they wanted to stretch out to the mainstream and sought to one day perform on the big stage. It wasn't too long before Mainstay self-released their first EP, and soon afterwards they officially signed with Smallman Music Group. Eventually the group released their full-length album debut called Well Meaning Fiction under a partnership of the labels Tooth and Nail and BEC Recordings. The record dropped in 2006 and featured the songs ""These Pages,"" ""Take Away"" and ""Down Silver Lake."" Their sound has been compared to the likes of Copeland and Switchfoot, although the members have brought something completely unique to their style, setting them apart from other Christian bands and even making them appealing to a more secular audience.Mainstay's type of rock music is described as melodic and very soothing. It is a far cry from the initial punk rock music that the group focused on but was a decidedly good move for the band seeking to acquire a more wide reaching fan base. The strong vocals and slight touches of piano music make Mainstay one of soft rock's greatest additions. They will most likely have many more albums released in the coming years."
