"Often compared to groups like Depeche Mode, New Order and The Cure, Moenia has been making electronica topped with a thick coating of pop since the late ‘90s and continues to churn out records to this day.Moenia is a Latin techno-pop outfit comprised of vocalist Juan Carlos Lozano, keyboardist Jorge Soto and keyboardist/programmer Alexander ""Midi"" Ortega. The talented trio hails from Mexico and made their debut in 1997 with an eponymous full-length album released via Universal Latin. The following year, Moenia issued a collection of remixes. In 1999 Moenia released their proper sophomore album in the form of Adicion. For their second album of new material, vocalist Juan Carlos Lorenzo was replaced by Alfonso Pichardo. Lorenzo went on to form a band called Morbo, which was still rooted in electronica but was infused with guitar. Pichardo left the group briefly but the trio reunited and their lineup has remained unchanged since the dawn of the new millennium.Moenia is known for being one of the first bands to find commercial success with their type of music in Mexico, as the music market there is dominated by regional groups like cumbia and ranchera, Latin ballad crooners and teeny bopper bands. The band has had a string of Top 20 hits, such as ""No Dices Mas,"" ""Manto Estelar"" and ""Estabas Ahi"" and although they have released over ten albums in their career, 2005's Stereo Hits is one of their most popular records. The album boasts a host of ‘80s and ‘90s Latin pop/rock and ballad covers like Los Prisioneros ""Tren Al Sur"" and Duncan Dhu's ""En Algun Lugar"" and although Stereo Hits was originally intended to tide fans over while Moenia was working on their next album of new material (2007's Solar), it was so popular that the trio launched a tour to support it. For their most recent effort, Solar, Moenia turned to ‘80s electropop."
