New Orleans-raised rapper Michael Tyler, better known by his stage name Mystikal, could drop a beat like no one else in the 1990s and early 2000s, and he often did so with a mouth full of expletives and without any apologies. The artist from the Dirty South represents a raucous underground rap style similar to that of rapper Master P, whose No Limit record label Mystikal got his start from.Mystikal released his self-titled debut album in 1995 with an independent label, and his first major-label debut Mind of Mystikal came a year later in 1996. The album was a great success among fans of underground rap, and almost went gold. Master P and No Limit collaborated with Mystikal for his next album Unpredictable, and his success skyrocketed from there. Mystikal's 1999 album release Ghetto Fabulous fell just short of debuting at number one on the charts, and his next album, 2000's Let's Get Ready, sold even better than his previous work. The hit song "Shake Ya Ass" from Let's Get Ready was an instant hit, and it also stereotyped Mystikal as the ghetto James Brown, noting the resemblance between the artists as they both tend to yell out random signature howls, sounds and phrases in the middle of their songs. In 2001, Mystikal's Tarantula continued his streak as a vulgar but lively rap icon, producing songs like "Bouncin' Back (Bumpin' Me Against the Wall)" and "Big Truck Driver." Big-name producers like KLC, The Neptunes, Rockwilder and Scott Storch led the way for Mystikal, and his success in the rap world just kept rising. Mystikal was nominated for two Grammys in 2002; one for Best Male Rap Solo Performance, and one for Best Rap Album. Mystikal's last album, Prince of the South, was released in 2004, and is comprised of his greatest hits up to that point.
