Oh, Sleeper

Oh, Sleeper Biography

"Awake, Oh Sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." Born out of diversity, the band is a conglomeration of members from lighter pop bands that did not survive the competitive music industry. Band members include Fort Worth based guitarist James Erwin, bassist Lucas Starr and drummer Ryan Conley, formerly of the emo band Terminal. They do not shy away from the fact that they base their music on their Christian faith and are amazingly candid in their presentation of what they believe.Oh Sleeper's debut album The Armored March was released by 1x1 Records in 2006 and they have been playing strong ever since. Their most recent album, the 2007 release When I am God shows a definite development and there is no denying the fact that their sound has greatly improved since their earlier days as Terminal. They have been described as containing elements of the bands Deftones, As Cities Burn and some taste of the band Scarlet. Even though they have only recently started out they have had the honor of heading up Bloodfest for several years in a row, most recently in February 2008.

Rising from the ashes of the emo band Terminal, and taking on survivors of another group, Evelynn, the members of the band Oh Sleeper have committed to bring more than music to the masses. They have done this through their honest and unswerving presentation of what they believe. Based out of Fort Worth, the group presents hard-core metal with a positive edginess, intellectual lyrics and meaningful structure. Their debut EP, The Armored March was released by 1x1 Records in November of 2006 and contained the single "We are the Archers." It is a clear introduction of their sound that brings with it heavy and dark guitars. The songs are also recycled for the groups first full length album When I am God produced by Solid State Records in 2007.When I am God contains the new songs "Building the Nations," "I Will Welcome the Reaping" and "Vices Like Vipers," all of which are available as ringtones on Playphones website. The album benefits greatly from the group's fearless approach to melody. Their concise song lengths make each song more memorable and their deft ability to craft their songs so that a shorter length adds to the meaning, is key to the success of the album.
