Rednex Biography
Since exploding onto the country music scene in 1994, Swedish country music group Rednex has toured the world performing their hit song "Cotton Eyed Joe" and other boot-pumpin' songs. Combining country music beats with euro dance moves, this internationally known group is sure to make anyone kick up their boots.Founded by harmonica playing Annika "Mary Joe" Ljungberg, the group has changed key players over the years but has continued to top European charts and arouse up a crowd. Singer Cotton Eye Joe plays the guitar and violin, and Maverick sings and plays the guitar and banjo.Originating in Sweden, Rednex continues to impress the world with their enthusiasm and energy in the more than 10 years they have been touring. Along with the three band mates, lead singer "Mary Joe" fires up the crowd with her Swedish twang and fringe ensembles.The group hit international success when the song "Cotton Eyed Joe" held the number one spot on the US charts for 25 weeks. Since that 1995 hit rang, European countries have enjoyed other hits from their first album, Sex & Violins, along with other chart topping singles like "The Spirit of the Hawk" from their second album Farm Out. After being replaced by two female vocalists for their second and third albums, Mary Joe has returned to the group for their upcoming fourth album release set for 2008, along with performing another hit song "Fe Fi (The Old Man Died) at the 2006 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.Expected for release in 2008, country euro dance group Rednex's fourth album will undoubtedly prove to be another international success. The first single off the album, "Mamma Take Me Home," sold gold in less than a month, and the group performed "Fe Fi (The Old Man Died)" at the grand opening ceremony of the World Athlete Championships in Helsinki.
