Ricardo Montaner Biography

Latin American serial soap operas, telenovelas, were the main catalyst for Ricardo Montaner's rise to pop superstardom. The Argentinean-born, Venezuelan-raised singer and songwriter was working his way up through the ranks in South and Central America in the early and mid 1980s before he eventually caught the ears and eyes of soap opera producers who wanted not only his emotive songs for their theme music, but also his galliant, guapo face to appear on the screen. Ricardo's self-titled 1987 album contained the hit song Yo Que Te Amé, which played during the title and credits for the soap Enamorada. Vamos a Dejarlo, also from Ricardo Montaner, went on to be the theme of Esa Muchacha de Ojos Café.Ricardo Montaner was able to capitalize on the fame brought about by the telenovelas to become one of the most successful Latin American musicians of the past two decades. Throughout the early 1990s Montaner released multiple albums which had varying levels of success, including En el Ultimo Lugar de Mindo, Los Hijos del Sol, Una Manana y un Camino, and Viene del Alma. With each album and its corresponding singles hits, Ricardo Montaner was able to conquer more and more of the Spanish speaking world, spreading his music like wildfire from two burning hot nucleuses in Venezuela and Argentina.By the late ‘90s, Montaner was an established name in the recording industry from Santigao, Chile, to Los Angeles, California, to Barcelona, Spain and everywhere in between. With a name that was a sure-thing in the records buisness, Ricardo later attempted to blend his music with other artists, eventually switching up styles between albums. The blending and experimentation in music turned out to be a smart, calculated gamble, as albums from the late ‘90s and early 2000s like Es Asi, Con la London Metropolitan Orchestra, Sueno Repetido, Suma, Prohibito Olvidar and Para Meus Amigos danced from genre to genre while keeping the success consistent.
