Roger Glover

Roger Glover Biography

"He may be best known as the bassist for Deep Purple, but Roger Glover's contribution to the music industry has gone much deeper than just his famous band. He was born in South Wales in 1945 and showed a love for music from a young age. He had a wide variety of influences as a child and he soon picked up instruments and started playing. He formed the band The Madisons in 1961 along with Tony Lander, Dave Collis, Mick Duvall and Harvey Shield. The Madisons decided to combine with another group in the area called the Lightnings. Lander and Shield stayed from the Madisons and the lineup also had Graham Dimmock, Sheila Carter and Andy Tait. The new band called themselves Episode Six.Within a few years, the group has traded Tait for frontman Ian Gillan, and they release the single ""Put Yourself in My Place"" in 1965. Episode Six continued to release music throughout the 1960s, but broke up by the end of the decade. Both Glover and Gillan joined a group called Deep Purple, which also featured Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord and Ian Paice. The group soon started releasing albums, becoming a massive success by the early 1970s. Blackmore and Glover rarely saw eye to eye, however, leading to Glover's departure in 1973. He continued to produce and write for bands like Judas Priest.Glover released his first solo album, Elements, in 1978. He released a successful follow up, Mask, in 1984. After the release, Glover went back to Deep Purple as they released Perfect Strangers, which was meant to be a comeback album. Glover left again by the late 1980s, but he was back by 1990. He remains with Deep Purple today, touring with them around the country. He also released another solo album, Snapshot, in 2002."
