Rosanne Cash

Rosanne Cash Biography

Johnny Cash may have helped his daughter rise to the top, but it was the understanding of the intricacies of life and the ability to put them into song that he passed down to her rather than fame itself. Rosanne Cash took her inborn talent and created an empire all her own, feeling more of a connection with folk than country. She included both of those genres in her work, however, along with blues, pop, rock and more. She was born in 1955 to Cash and Vivian Liberto, his first wife. Her parents broke up by the 1960s and Liberto raised Rosanne in California.Cash's take on her father's career as a child had more to do with his substance abuse than his music. Her view changed after high school when she started touring with her father. She tried many different paths after leaving the tour, travelling all over the world. She released on album in Germany before getting a record deal with Columbia Records. She released Right or Wrong in 1979, which instantly put her on the charts. She followed it up with an even more successful album, Seven Year Ache, in 1981, giving her worldwide fame and numerous fans.Created during her pregnancy, Somewhere in the Stars was released in 1982 and was obviously rushed. She took a few years to release her next album, Rhythm and Romance, in 1985. For the next five years following Rhythm and Romance, it seemed as if Cash could do no wrong. She hit the top of the country charts numerous times. Her divorce in the early 1990s led to a bare record called The Wheel in 1993 and much critical acclaim. Cash turned her attention to writing a book instead of music, but also continued to slowly release some material. Her most recent effort is 2006's Black Cadillac, which again did well on the charts.
