"Lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Max Bemis and longtime drummer Colby Linder are the only band members of the punk-pop outfit Say Anything that have remained constant over the years. Bemis founded the band while most of the members were still in high school and managed to issue two self-released EPS, Junior Varsity! and Menorah/Majora despite the constant revolving door of bandmates. In 2003 Say Anything made its full-length debut with Baseball, an album which placed them among the ranks of bands like blink-182 and Saves the Day.For ...Is the Real Boy, Say Anything's 2004 debut on Doghouse Records, Bemis revamped the band in what was hailed a rock musical. Produced by Tim O'Heir (Dinosaur Jr., the All-American Rejects) and Stephen Trask (Hedwig and the Angry Itch), ...Is the Real Boy featured Bemis as a one-man band, playing nearly every instrument on the record (save for the drums, which Linder continued to play.) The Say Anything frontman's bipolar disorder troubled both the album and the band's subsequent tour, which was cancelled in 2005 despite an opening slot with Bemis' idols, Saves the Day. Nonetheless, Say Anything signed with J Records and rereleased ...Is a Real Boy in 2006 in the form of a double-disc that featured the original album as well as a bonus EP containing unreleased sessions from an AIDS benefit record (which was never released,) demos, and re-recordings.Back on track, Say Anything set out on a national headlining tour and released the single ""Alive with the Glory of Love"" to successful reviews and ample airplay on MTV and the radio. In 2007 Say Anything paired with Saves the Day on tour and subsequently issued the two-disc concept album In Defense of the Genre that October."
