"Creed fans rejoiced when former Creed member Scott Stapp issued a solo album in 2005 and filled the void left by the dissolution of their favorite rock band one year earlier.Scott Stapp was born Anthony Scott Flippen in 1973 but changed his name in 1981. The singer, whose greatest influences are U2's iconic album The Joshua Tree, The Doors, U2 and Led Zeppelin, moved to Tallahassee, Florida at the age of 22 to pursue a music career. He and former high school friend Mark Tremonti formed Creed soon after and the group was an instant success. Creed signed with Wind-Up Records in 1997 and their debut album, My Own Prison, spawned four Number One singles. Creed's sophomore album, Human Clay, was an even bigger success, selling 11 million copies. In 2001 the band issued their third release, Weathered, and watched as it went platinum-four times over! In 1998 Stapp became a father to son Jagger, the inspiration for the 2001 Grammy winning Creed song ""With Arms Wide Open."" The singer created the With Arms Wide Open Foundation in 2000 to aid in the protection of children. In 2005 Stapp made his solo debut with The Great Divide, a decidedly stripped sown album in comparison to his previous work with Creed. ""Surround Me"" is the closest Stapp gets to the power ballad essence of Creed's biggest hit, ""With Arms Wide Open,"" and the rest of the album features a sound that simultaneously pleases Creed fans and signals a departure from the band that made Stapp a star. Most recently, Stapp issued an acoustic version of The Great Divide's ""Broken"" and toured the Middle East and Europe as part of the Armed Forces Entertainment Tour. Stay tuned to see what's next for Scott Stapp on his solo journey."
