Sheena Easton Biography
Sheena Easton is known worldwide as a 1980s pop icon, revolutionizing the industry and setting the stage for more artists to follow in her famous footsteps. Easton was born Sheena Shirley Orr in Bellshill, Scotland in 1959. Ever since she was a young girl, Sheena was intrigued with music. She attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama at the same time she was a participatory member of the band Something Else. All the while, Sheena Easton remained a relatively unknown figure in the world of music. This too, though, was about to change.Sheena Easton got her big break after her exposure on the BBC television production The Big Time. Suddenly Easton was propelled into a life of fame, especially after a record deal with EMI was established in which the singer released two 1980 debut singles, "Modern Girl" and "9 to 5." Both songs made it into the U.K. Top Ten, and thus Easton became the very first female artist to score two simultaneous Top Ten Hits. It was the break that Easton had long been waiting for. Shortly after her successes on the charts, Easton released her self-titled debut LP. Some of the songs that appeared on the record included, "9 to 5," which was re-titled "Morning Train," and "Modern Girl." For her efforts in the music industry, Easton won a Grammy for Best New Artist. Afterwards, Easton recorded the song, "For Your Eyes Only," which was featured as the James Bond movie theme.Easton's specific type of song style can best be described as a mixture between disco and synthetic pop tunes. Her first three albums Sheena Easton, You Could Have Been With Me and Madness, Money and Music were all considered to be categorized in the Soft Rock/Adult Contemporary pop style although she also later dabbled in other genres like New Wave. Easton always charted well in the soft rock genre, especially in the United States, and on into the eighties she scored some of the biggest hits of her career like "We've Got Tonight" and "U Got the Look." Easton still is bringing down borders with her unique and original sound, the likes of which has carried her to the top of the charts.
