Showbread

Showbread Biography

"Christian metal group Showbread has often been criticized for their spastic behaviors and somewhat satanic beats, though the Savannah, Georgia group insist they are faith based, even citing the Bible as to how they got their name.Showbread formed in 1997 by Patrick Porter and Travis Riner as a means to worship on Sunday mornings. Their ""raw rock"" approach to Biblical phrases was less than appealing to the congregation at their Baptist church. After a few lineup changes, with the addition of vocalist Ivory Mobley and Josh Dies, lead guitarist Matt Davis, guitarist Mike Jensen and drummer Marvin Reilly the group started touring around their state and received a bit of attention from other Christian rock bands. They began releasing, on their own, several EPS in 2001, including Human Beings are too Shallow to Fall in Love and Goodnight Sweetheart, the Stitches are Coming Apart. After a few more lineup changes, by 2004 the group had signed with well known Christian label Tooth and Nail and began playing larger arenas. That year the quartet performed at the Cornerstone Festival and released their debut album with Tooth and Nail, called No Sir, Nihilism is not Practical. In promotion of their album, Showbread toured with Versus the Mirror, Sullivan and Dead Poetic before their follow up album, Age of Reptiles, appeared in 2006. The group's sound was now synonymous with alternative metal Christian thrashers and fans of their corresponding outfits. In an extremely unconventional method, the group announced their plans for their fourth studio album via their website. Hidden messages revealed that the two disc album, Anorexia Nervosa, would be released May 2008. Following the album release, which made Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart and the Top Heatseekers chart, the boys toured with Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, A Static Lullaby, Confide and Attack Attack!"

"Showbread's sound has gotten them in trouble with critics and fans alike as they claim they are a Christian band but from the looks of them praise everything but God. The Savannah, Georgia based group created their band in the late ‘90s when two friends started working with their church to create a worship service that was a little more upbeat. The two friends, founding members Patrick Porter and Travis Riner, incorporated a little too much raw metal beats into the band's prayers and eventually stepped away from their Baptist church to perform around Georgia. With the addition of a few more members over the years Showbread has been able to create a steady fan base that accepts their raw metal sound and Christian undertones, along with their matching outfits (which are usually red and black). The group screams to Biblical messages and phrases as they continue to create more albums with their Christian record label Tooth and Nail. Currently available for ringtone download are the singles ""The Dirt,"" The Journey,"" ""The Pig,"" and ""The Vulture."" Each single appears on their group's newest album, one half of the 2008 album Anorexia Nervosa, and was composed by lead vocalist Josh Dies."
