Ted Nugent is a rock god! At least that's what hordes of hard rock fans will tell you. Over his lengthy career, the Nuge has earned a reputation for being one of the more exciting live performers in rock and having one of the more eclectic personalities in the business, both serious accomplishments considering his peers. Through it all though, Nugent has abstained from the stereotypical sex, drugs and rock & roll lifestyle and maintained an anti-substance attitude.Nugent and his Gibson Byrdland guitar have become synonymous with rocking out, but he had to start somewhere. After toiling around in a few bands, his first wave of success came as a part of the group the Amboy Dukes in the late 1960s. The group epitomized the high-energy rock that Nugent would become so well known for. While the group's lineup became somewhat of a revolving door, Nugent remained as the only consistent member, prompting the name change to Ted Nugent & the Amboy Dukes in the early ‘70s.The band released several albums during the first half of the decade that didn't exactly tear up the charts, but they remained a huge draw on the stage thanks to their penchant for lively performances. Eventually the Nuge broke out on his own and cut his debut solo effort in 1975. The release was a hit with the hard rock audience and the legend of Nugent continued to grow. The Nuge hit it large with his 1977 album Cat Scratch Fever and its immensely popular title track.Nugent has continued to release original material throughout the ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s. He's calmed down a bit as far his public exposure, but he remains as energetic as ever in his home life. Nugent is an avid hunter and has even been appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association.
