The Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band Biography

"The road that the members of the Allman Brothers Band have traveled throughout their lengthy careers has been one filled with obstacles, impediments and difficulties, but the group has forged on through adversity and solidified themselves as one of the most hailed bands in the history of rock. Formed at the end of the ‘60s by Duane and Gregg Allman, the band's blend of blues, country and even jazz propelled them into the upper echelon of rock groups in the 1970s.The Allman Brothers Band honed their craft by playing on the road before releasing their eponymous debut in 1970. The record was a fantastic melting pot of genres, though it failed to generate good sales numbers. The album did earn the band a cult following of sorts, though, and garnered significant respect from critics. Their 1970 follow-up Idlewild South is considered by some to be the best studio album the band produced. The record saw the addition of more acoustic elements that gave the bluesy characteristics of the record an interesting sound. Idlewild South also featured the song ""Midnight Rider,"" which would be the inspiration for endless covers as time went on.In 1971 a series of live shows transformed into the band's third record, At Filmore East. The album went gold and is considered by many ‘70s rock aficionados to be a classic. Two weeks after the album was certified gold, the music world experienced a serious blow when Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident. Thus began the rocky road the band would travel. The Allman Brothers would lose more members to death, experience a multitude of lineup changes and face their fair share of turmoil, but all the while releasing great albums like Brothers and Sisters, which featured the well-known ""Ramblin' Man."" Their sound has evolved with the ever-changing nature of music, but only gradually as the group never tried to impress anyone by reinventing themselves. Though the band's history has been plagued by drug use, illness and death, the Allman Brothers remain together, albeit with a significantly altered lineup from the original."
