The Black Crowes

The Black Crowes Biography

The Black Crowes was created by the Robinson brothers in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1984. It took the group several years to make their debut, which entered the public arena under the title Shake Your Money Maker. The group is headed by vocalist Chris Robinson who was married to Kate Hudson until their divorce went through in 2007. The first line up started with his brother Rich Robinson on the guitar followed by Johnny Colt on the bass, Jeff Cease also on guitar, and Steve Gorman on the drums. The current members of the band are Rich, still on the guitar and Steve Groman still on the drums, but Sven Pipien is now on bass, Adam MacDougal is on keyboards, and Luther Dickinson is also on the guitar.Since their debut album was released, the group has been incredibly successful, starting with Shake at number four on the Billboard 200, the group has had string of successes on Billboard. With Southern Harmony, their second album, making number one as their greatest chart success so far. The group has definitely made themselves heard, creating a sound that is fully vintage rock, and fully relevant to today's listeners - they are bringing in the best of both worlds. The group's third album was Amorica which marked the point where the Black Crowes found their full sound and made music theirs, something totally, originally theirs. The album was released in May/June of 1994. Three Snakes and One Charm came next in 1996, showing a maturing sound with brilliant undertones. Souled Out Live followed in 1998 under the Sony Japan label. By Your Side followed in January o f 1999, and was a solid selection of rock songs. Lions followed in 2001, a year into the Chris Robinson and Kate Hudson marriage. The group split in 2002, but recently reunited in 2005. Most recently the group has released their seventh album Warpaint on March 3, 2007. The album hit the charts well, and has given them something solid to hang their reputation on.
