"The Emotions emerged in the late 1960s as an R&B sister act and went on to become one of the greatest female vocal groups in the 1970s.In 1969 lead singer Shelia Hutchinson and her sisters Wanda and Jeanette broke into the soul charts with ""So I Can Love You."" Although they were just teenagers when they scored their first hit song, the Hutchinson sisters already had a lot of practice, as they had been singing gospel music since they were young girls and also achieved local secular fame prior to releasing ""So I Can Love You."" The sisterly trio signed with the Memphis label Volt and set to the studio with producers Isaac Hayes and David Porter early on in their career before teaming up with Earth, Wind & Fire's Maurice White and recording the pop/R&B number one single ""Best of My Love"" in 1977. Two years later White and the Emotions collaborated again, this time one the number two R&B and number six pop smash single ""Boogie Wonderland.""On the heels of three successful singles, the Emotions released three more albums on White's ARC label between 1979 and 1981, although none of them reached the success of their earlier work. In 1984 the girls switched labels to Red for the album Sincerely, which spawned four singles including ""All Things Come in Time"" (none of which matched their previously successful singles.) The Emotions then jumped labels again, this time to Motown, but only released one album (If Only Knew). The sisters went on to pursue projects aside from the Emotions, with Shelia as a featured vocalist on Garry Glenn's 1987 hit ""Feels Good to Feel Good,"" Pam (another Hutchinson sister) and Janette singing background vocals on Helen Baylor's gospel song ""There's No Greater Love"" and Wanda and Janette laying down vocals for Earth, Wind & Fire's 1990 album Heritage.
